PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle is pleased to announce that it will host its first Faculty Noon Seminar of the spring 2011 semester on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 12:30 p.m. in the Normal Hall Faculty Lounge. Professor Rachael Hannah will present “Blood Flow in Our Brains; Coordinated Communication in an Instant.” The purpose of the Faculty Noon Seminar Series is to foster awareness of research and teaching activities taking place on campus and to provide a forum for dissemination between faculty members. The series also offers the opportunity to network and encourage trans-disciplinary scholarly activity. As a campus-wide forum, students, faculty and administrative staff are invited to present their work during the seminar series. This event is free and open to the public. For more information about the Faculty Noon Seminar Series, contact Lynn Eldershaw at 768-9749.

Campus to host dating coaches

PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present Dave and Ethan: Dating 101, on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. in the University’s Campus Center. In March of 2008, childhood friends Dave Ahdoot and Ethan Fixell posted ads on Craigslist and YouTube, inviting pairs of girls to double-date them. As the responses poured in, they began documenting their experiences in a series of video blogs, which quickly became a YouTube comedy series about double-dating. After going on nearly 200 double-dates, Dave and Ethan began hosting their own monthly show at the People’s Improv Theater in New York City, divulging advice to consistently sold-out crowds. Most recently, Dave and Ethan have been touring the country, educating college students on the art of dating. They have also been featured on Bravo’s “Millionaire Matchmaker,” Comedy Central.com, and Single Edition.com. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Student Activities Office at 768-9582.

Young adults to meet at local bar to discuss faith

PRESQUE ISLE — It may seem like an unusual mix, but the Theology on Tap program mixes a relaxed bar atmosphere and serious, challenging discussions about faith. For the first time in Aroostook County, this international program will bring Catholic young adults (in their 20s and 30s) and their friends to listen to speakers, share conversation and gain new insights into faith.

The first session will take place Thursday, Feb. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crow’s Nest, 150 Maysville Road in Presque Isle.  The topic will be “Coming to Mass with Burning Hearts.” The group will explore the beauty and power of the Catholic mass.

Theology on Tap is an offering of RENEW International, a Catholic not-for-profit organization based in New Jersey. RENEW has a 25-year history of promoting spiritual renewal and lay leadership across six continents.
