Fort Fairfield native performs with famous opera company

NEW YORK CITY — Fort Fairfield native Teresa Herold, returns this month to the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York City for performances of John Adams’ “Nixon in China.”  This American opera receives its Met premiere with original stage direction by Peter Sellars and will be conducted by composer John Adams.  The story tells of the historic trip taken by President Richard Nixon in 1972 to Communist China. Herold will perform the part of one of three secretaries to Chairman Mao Tse-tung.

“Nixon in China” will be broadcast on Saturday, Feb. 12 to movie theaters all over the world as part of the Met’s Live in HD transmission series. This same performance will be broadcast on local Maine Public Radio 106.1 FM beginning at 1 p.m. Herold is in her fourth season with the Metropolitan Opera and will perform later this spring in Verdi’s “Rigoletto.”
