PRESQUE ISLE — A Main Street business began the task of cleaning debris, following an accident that landed a pickup in the establishment’s front window during the early morning hours Tuesday.

The Presque Isle Police Department received a call around 3 a.m. from the operator — identified as Ronald Soucier, 61, of Presque Isle — reporting he’d just struck a storefront downtown. Soucier stated he was traveling west down Academy Street and lost control of his 2005 GMC pick-up truck at the intersection with Main Street and subsequently struck the building across the street.

Officer Cole Chandler, PIPD, responded. Upon arrival, Chandler found Soucier’s vehicle still partially lodged inside Country Collectibles. Jerry’s Towing was called to remove the truck from the store. Store owner Lynne Graves was notified of the accident.

“Ron reported that he was traveling west on Academy Street when he slid through the intersection at Main Street. He went through the intersection, onto the sidewalk and into the storefront,” said Chandler.

Soucier was not injured in the accident. His truck sustained minimal damage, while damage to the plate-glass window and store was estimated at around $10,000.

Police also investigated a similar incident Monday afternoon, when an Elizabeth Street resident reported Sunday evening a vehicle had struck the side of his residence, doing minor damage to the vinyl siding. The home owner advised the operator failed to notify him of the incident. He described the vehicle involved as an extended cab GMC pick-up truck with a Maine plate.

Officer Chris Hayes, PIPD, was assigned. Upon investigation, it was determined that the truck belonged to a next-door neighbor. Hayes summonsed 44-year-old Edwin Charette for failure to report a property damage accident, with a Presque Isle District Court Date of April 6, 2011.
