JACKSON APPOINTED

AUGUSTA — Sen. Troy Jackson (D-Allagash) has been named the lead Democratic senator on the newly formed Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee. The new committee was formed at the beginning of the 125th Legislature and will be the committee most responsible for labor, business and research and development issues in Maine.

“Having served as the Senate chair of the Labor Committee in the 124th Legislature, I am very pleased that I will again be able to play a significant role for the working women and men of Maine,” Jackson stated, “and I will do all that I can to protect Maine workers and Maine jobs.”

Prior to his election this past November, Jackson served one term in the Maine Senate and three terms in the Maine House and served on the Labor Committee each session.

“I feel I have gained a level of expertise on labor issues,” Jackson said, “and I am very pleased that my leadership team — Senators Barry Hobbins of Saco and Justin Alfond of Portland — have given me the opportunity to continue advocating for Maine workers. What drove me to run for the Legislature in the first place was my concern for labor issues in the Maine woods and the threat of illegal workers. I am also very excited to take on the business and research and development issues that will come before this expanded committee.”

The 125th Legislature has 16 joint standing committees, down from 17 in the past legislature.
