The Maine Elks Association State Hoop Shoot competition was held Jan. 30 at Brunswick High School. The event was hosted by the Brunswick Elks Lodge #2043.

Eighteen boys and girls competed in the contest to determine the six age division winners, who all earned the right to advance to the regionals in South Portland March 25-27.

Caitlin Paradis, representing Presque Isle Elks Lodge #1954, won the girls age 12-13 division.

Other local competitors, all representing the Presque Isle Elks, were Breann Bradbury, second in the girls 8-9 division; Alex Bouchard, third in the boys 8-9 division; and Cassidy Pelletier, third in the girls 10-11 division.

Since its inception in 1946, the Elks National Hoop Shoot competition has grown to include more than three million participants annually, making it the largest non-profit co-educational sports program in the country. Much of the funding for the program comes from the Elks National Foundation, the charitable arm of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks.
