MONTICELLO — A Monticello woman remained in fair condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor Tuesday following a two-car collision Sunday morning near her home.
According to Maine State Police Sgt. Brian L. Harris, Norma Folsom, 82, of Monticello was attempting to pull out of her driveway into traffic on U.S. Route 1 at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
“Folsom spun on her ice covered driveway as she attempted to pull out onto Route 1,” Harris said. “Folsom suddenly caught traction and lurched forward out of her driveway into the path of [an oncoming] vehicle.”

NE-Monticello crash-dcx-pt-7SUNDAY COLLISION — Norma Folsom, 82, of Monticello was injured when her 1998 Ford Explorer pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle, driven by Bernard Ginn of Winterport. Folsom’s vehicle was a total loss.

Bernard Ginn, 50, of Winterport was heading south on Route 1, towing a snow sled trailer when Folsom’s vehicle lurched into his path. The trooper added that Ginn attempted to avoid Folsom, but could not and struck the front of her vehicle, a 1998 Ford Explorer. Ginn then traveled across the road, going off the opposite side of the road into a snow bank and Folsom’s vehicle careened into a neighbor’s driveway.
Folsom was taken from the scene by Crown Ambulance and transported to Houlton Regional Hospital and was later transferred by Life Flight to EMMC in Bangor for treatment of her injuries.  Ginn was not injured in the collision.
Ginn’s vehicle, a 2008 Dodge pickup, and his snow sled trailer both sustained substantial damage. Folsom’s vehicle also sustained significant damage and was a total loss. Both Ginn and Folsom were wearing their seatbelts and in addition, Folsom’s airbags were deployed.
Harris said there were no passengers and no charges were pending. Route 1 was shut down for approximately three hours, affecting both south and northbound traffic. The U.S. Border Patrol and Monticello Fire Department assisted Harris at the scene.
