Aroostook Times
Monticello — Mr. Tom Wiley snared a large bobcat last Thursday night. The animal was a large one and had a very pretty coat of fur.
Local — Lawrence Russell, Bob Garrison and Frank Astle went fishing through the ice last Saturday and brought home a fine mess of trout.
A note — On account of the usual rush at this season of the year due to the Town Reports which have to be gotten out, we are obliged to leave out much interesting matter this week.

Smyrna — Mr. and Mrs. Kermit McGary entertained their friends and neighbors at a party Saturday evening. Mr. McGary, who has been in the woods for Artemus Shaw spent the weekend at home.
Skating — The two skating rinks, one on Pleasant Street and one on Weeks Street, sponsored by the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club in co-operation with the Town have been popular resorts for large numbers of young people and adults during the cold weather.
Hodgdon — A Republican Caucus was held here recently and the following were elected: Cyrus Benn, chairman; John Hunter, vice chairman; Harry Williams, secretary; Lex Vail, treasurer, Shirley Benn and Medston Perrigo, delegates; Wilbur Harding and Cyrus Benn, alternates.

Ricker Classical Institute — R.C.I., the 114-year-old pioneer of secondary education in northern Maine, will begin an orderly transition to a self-supporting private college preparatory school “of high quality” in the fall. The junior college was added in 1926; the senior college in 1949.
Houlton Pioneer Times 1961 File PhotoCHAMPIONS — The Hodgdon High School girls team, above, won the Katahdin Valley League trophy this year. Team members include, Bonnie Oliver, Linda L. Putnam, Bettie Sherman, Barbara Boone, Joan Rouse, Sharon Kervin, Gail Blinn, Donna Royal, Donna Stewart, Janice Glidden and Pamela Wilson. Managers are Marie Whited and Norma Bast. Coach is Joe F. McBrine, principal of the school.
Houlton — Francis Pierce and sons, Thomas and Andrew and Joseph McKay and son Bruce, enjoyed the weekend skiing at Lac Beauport, Quebec.
Promotion — Kenneth Larson, master sergeant of Battery B. Maine National Guard has been promoted to first sergeant of the unit as of March 1. He is one of few men in Maine to achieve this rating requiring 15 years of service.

Honor parts — Southern Aroostook Community High School has announced the honor parts for the Class of 1986 as follows: valedictorian, Melissa Small; salutatorian, Kathy Bryant; first honor essayist, Carol J. Farrar; and second honor essayist, Brent Steven Dubois.
School board — Seeking two seats on the SAD 29 Board of Directors during Houlton’s annual election will be four candidates. They are Katherine London, Glen Hines, Joseph Inman and Richard Lycette.
Downtown — The future of Downtown Houlton could be at an important crossroads with townspeople being asked to approve a $1,385,000 bond issue with the funds to be used to help finance a $2 million Downtown Revitalization.
