Father/Daughter Dance pics
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department have received the Father/Daughter Dance pictures and they are now available at the community center for pickup. Center hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Grade 5-6 basketball
In the weekly Wednesday Skills Competitions, the 5th & 6th graders showcased their H.O.R.S.E. game creativity. Winning the second of four competitions was Emily Wheaton, while Madison Bearden finished as runner-up.
In the third competition, the athletes tried their luck at the three-point shootout. The winner for this event was Ryle Mortland and coming in second place was Emily Wheaton. The next competition will be the Knockout event, which will complete the first skills competition offered for this league.
The Bulls and Lakers hit the court in attempt to continue the streak of barn burning games with an intense competitive feeling. First, for the Bulls, Grant Stewart had a game-high 20 points with 13 rebounds, followed by Bulls point guard Madison Bearden scoring eight points. Dylan Schinhofen added five points, all coming in overtime, with Chrissy Skidgel chipping in with a hoop.
On the other side of the court, the Lakers’ Josiah Morse had 12, Randon Mortland 11 and Ryle Mortland nine. This game was fought hard all the way through regulation with the Bulls outscoring the Lakers in the overtime period, 6-1 in the 35-30 victory.
In the next game, the Sixers faced off with the Spurs. Griffen Guerrette had two huge quarters scoring 12 points in the first and 13 in the fourth finish with 33 in the game. Also scoring for the Sixers were Wyatt Kennedy and Jack Beaulieu, both with field goals.
As for the Spurs, Grant Bridges and Gavin Kelley had 12 points each, while Adam Paterson added eight and Jake Kinney six. The Sixers pulled off the win, 37-36.
The last game proved to be another great matchup between the Celtics and the Thunder. The Celtics’ Bradley Kinney and Marcus Ouellette both threw in 16 points with Jordan Bonville adding two points to the mix. The Thunder was led by Emily Wheaton with 15 points followed by Issac Devine with 13 – nine coming in the fourth quarter to pull within a basket. Also scoring for the Thunder was Chandler Paradis with four. The Celtics pulled off the close win, 34-32.
Indoor pool classes
The Presque Isle Indoor Pool has begun pre-paid registration for the March 28-June 4, 2011 session.
Parent/Child classes are for children between six months and three years old. Classes are being offered Tuesday from 9-9:25 a.m. and 6-6:25 p.m. or Saturday from 9-9:25 a.m.
Three year old classes are offered Monday, 4:30-4:55 p.m.; Wednesday, 1-1:25 p.m.; Friday, 9:30-9:55 a.m.; or Saturday, 9:30-9:55 a.m.
Four and five year old lessons are for those unable to swim 10 yards. Classes are being offered Tuesday, 9-9:25 a.m., 3:30-3:55 p.m. or 6:30-6:55 p.m.; Wednesday, 1:30-1:55 p.m. or 4:30-4:55 p.m.; Thursday, 9-9:25 a.m., 3-3:25 p.m., 3:30-3:55 p.m. or 6-6:25 p.m.; Friday, 9-9:25 a.m.; and Saturday, 9-9:25 a.m., 10-10:25 a.m. or 10:30-10:55 a.m.
Swimming three to five-year-old classes are for those able to swim 10 yards. Classes are being offered Tuesday, 3-3:25 p.m.; Wednesday, 4-4:25 p.m.; Thursday, 6-6:25 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:30-9:55 a.m..
Advanced three to five-year-old classes are for those who are able to swim the width of the pool unassisted. Classes are being offered Wednesday at 9-9:50 a.m. or 1-1:50 p.m.
Learn to Swim 1 are for those who are 6 years old and older and classes are geared toward beginner swimmers. Classes are being offered Tuesday, 4-4:50 p.m.; Thursday, 3-3:50 p.m., 4-4:50 p.m. or 6-6:50 p.m.; and Saturday, 11-11:50 a.m.
Level 2 classes are for those who are able to swim the width of the pool. Classes are being offered Tuesday, 4-4:50 p.m. or 6-6:50 p.m.; Wednesday, 1-1:50 p.m.; Thursday, 4-4:50 p.m.; and Saturday, 11-11:50 a.m.
Level 3-4 classes are for those who can do front crawl and back crawl and are comfortable with their face in the water. Classes are being offered Tuesday, 3-3:50 p.m.; Wednesday, 2-2:50 p.m. or 6-6:50 p.m.; Thursday, 3-3:50 p.m.; and Saturday, 9-9:50 a.m.
Level 5-6 are for those who are looking to perfect swimming skills. Swimmers must have knowledge of all strokes. Classes are being offered Monday, 6-6:50 p.m.; Tuesday, 4-4:50 p.m.; Wednesday, 2-2:50 p.m.; Thursday, 4-4:50 p.m.; and Saturday, 11-11:50 a.m.
Adult Beginner and Stroke Improvement classes are being offered Wednesday, 9-9:50 a.m. or Thursday, 7-7:50 p.m.
Shallow water exercise classes are being offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10-10:50 a.m.
Deep water exercise classes are being offered: Monday and Wednesday, 4-4:50 p.m.; and Tuesday and Thursday, 6-6:50 p.m.
Aqua Zumba classes are being offered Monday and Wednesday, 6-6:50 p.m.
A Lifeguard re-certification course will be offered on March 22 from 8-2 p.m. Those interested must be currently lifeguard certified and the cost is $50.
A Lifeguard Instructor course will be offered March 27, April 3 and 10 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Those interested must have current lifeguard certification. This course is designed towards those who are looking to teach lifeguard courses and the cost is $200.

Wintergreen Arts Center
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department and Wintergreen Arts Center has begun registration for the early spring session. Registration for Mini-Monet playgroup and after-school progr a.m.s is now under way at the Willi a.m. V. Haskell Community Center. The cost for Mini-Monet’s is $25 per child and the after-school progr a.m. is $30 per child. For more information, contact the recreation department at 764-2545.
The recreation department has announced the addition of two new classes being offered at Wintergreen Arts Center. The first is for middle school students in grades 7 and 8. Students will spend time learning about the arts in a variety of planned activities and hands-on projects. This class meets on Thursdays from 3-5:30 p.m. The second new class is Art Fusion Friday, which meets Fridays from 3-5:30 p.m. and is open to students in grades 4-8. This class offers an in-depth experience in creative writing, drama, music and visual arts for students who have previously attended an Arts & Parks after-school program and submitted a simple application with an artistic sample. Applications are available at the recreation office.

March 29-April 8 features Earth Friendly Do It Yourself. Celebrate Earth Day and do your own little parts in saving the planet! The students will learn how to create their own everyday items such as soap, lip balm, candles and sidewalk chalk. They will also learn how much money they can save by doing it themselves.
Men’s basketball
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is offering men’s basketball Tuesday and Thursdays nights from 7-9 p.m. This progr a.m. is for individuals over 18 years of age, and/or is out of high school. This progr a.m. is informal and costs $1 per night.
Adult volleyball

Northern Zumba
The recreation department and Northern Zumba are pleased to offer ZUMBA! This progr a.m. will be offered Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings from 9-10 a.m. The fee for the progr a.m. is $6 per class or $50 for 10 classes. Birthday parties at the pool and recreation center
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will host birthday parties for ages 4 and up at the recreation center in addition to hosting parties at the indoor pool.
