LIMESTONE — Seventeen of Limestone’s young ladies gather for their Troop 884 meeting to find fun and forge friendships through participating in the Girl Scouts of America organization. Scouting promotes kindness and leadership qualities in the young ladies while instilling a positive outlook on life according to troop 884 members, but they have the most fun playing games (particularly the Girl Scout Walk Out), making crafts and going different places.

Limestone Girl Scouts Sam Fisher and Jessica Tucker really got into the annual cookie drive last year (literally), having fun fund-raising for the organization and their own Troop number 884.

Girl Scout Walk Out, also known as the Friendship Circle, occurs when all the Scouts stand in a circle, arms crossed right-over-left while holding hands with her fellow scouts on the right and left. The girls pass a single hand-squeeze around the circle from Scout to Scout and all youths make a silent wish.

The Limestone Girl Scouts also look forward to selling Girl Scout Cookies because “our troop enjoys making people happy with our cookies and the money we raise goes toward exciting and fun trips,” said troop members, mentioning that camping is always a good time as well.

Other good times took place during the troop’s trips to Boston and Washington D.C., but the Limestone ladies’ efforts extend beyond traveling; they often participate in volunteer work such as making birthday bags for individuals utilizing the services of the Battered Women’s Shelter as well as writing post cards and compiling care packages for troops overseas.

Troop 884 meets once a week, and includes all Scouting ages. The girls do split up into their own age groups during the meeting, but generally meet back together allowing the older girls assist the younger girls in their Scouting pursuits. The troop is open for new members looking to participate in the joys of Scouting.

Scout Spencer of Troop 1092 held her prize catch from a day of ice fishing with her fellow Scouts. It may not have been the biggest fish, but she was pretty proud of it.
