Opposites

Funny how sadness brings out our true selfs.

Tells us what we want.

What we miss.

It brings us thoughts of what used to be.

Yet what no longer is.

It can even bring reminisces of a better time.

But without those losses,

Without the sadness and the hurt.

Without the pain

Would we truly value what we have?

Happiness is only compared to the equal and opposite sadness that is its alter ego.

For when you’re happy,

You have what you want.

Miss not, what you don’t.

It brings thoughts of what is,

And what still can be.

It even brings reminisces of a time where you had none of it.

But without this,

Without the elation and freedom,

Without the ever-growing butterflies that seem entrapped in our stomachs,

Would we truly honor where we were to where we are now?

These are questions that I ask myself, as if to say without one there isn’t another.

Without North there is no South.

Without female there is no male.

Without No there is no Yes.

So the next time you look at any situation and wonder why me?

Why did this have to happen?

Why did this hurt me?

Just remember,

There is always and equal and opposite side to what you’re feeling, and that one day when you look back,

To how far you have come, you will see that without everything both good

And bad … you wouldn’t be who you are today.
