Recruitment begins for Head-Start programs
Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) is currently recruiting children for the 2011-2012 program year.
ACAP Head Start is a comprehensive early childhood education program which promotes child health, parent education and involvement, nutritious hot meals and special services as needed for children enrolled in the program. Head Start is provided primarily for low income and community-eligible families, however all interested families are encouraged to apply, including families of children with disabilities.
Children must be 3 or 4 years old by Oct. 15 for the Head Start program. Proof of income is required. Early Head Start accepts applications for pregnant women and children up to age 3. Home-based services are available through ACAP’s partnership with Healthy Families Aroostook. Bus transportation will be provided for the traditional Head Start and Early Head Start center-based program options if the child lives within the designated transportation route. If they do not live within the designated route, family service workers will assist families by providing resources that may help with transportation.
For more information, help or a tour of one of the centers, interested persons may contact any local ACAP Child and Family center in their community or call Kim Larkins at 768-3045 or 800-432-7881.
Center-based and home-based Head Start program options are available to meet the changing needs of today’s families; recruitment is taking place at all ACAP Child and Family centers daily. No appointments are necessary.
