HOULTON – Walter Paul Soucy, 75, died peacefully Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Harmony Community Living Association, where he was a resident for several years. He was born Aug. 13, 1935, in Lewiston, a son to Walter and Louisiana (Cailler) Soucy.
He attended Pineland Center, New Gloucester, which served as a home for the mentally handicapped of Maine. In 1985 his guardians, who were also his relatives, Sister Gratienne Cailler, Sister Alvenise Cailler and cousin, Madeline Giguere, relocated Walter to Houlton Residential Center; there he was provided the best health care and emotional care that he could possibly have. In 1991 he moved to Harmony Community Living Association, where he resided until his death on Tuesday. He has gone home to join his parents, and to reunite with his past guardians and family members who have passed on.
He is survived by his current guardians and several cousins in the Lewiston/Auburn area. His current guardians, Alphée Grenier, Rick Grenier, Michelle Maybury and Maria LaBonte, thank the entire staff for their constant care, courtesy and friendship that they have provided for Walter throughout his years. Friends called 11:30 a.m. until the time of service 12:30 p.m. Monday at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, with Deacon Al Burleigh officiating.
