PAUL ELISH,
a member of Presque Isle High School’s National Honor Society, also serves as the president of the Northern Region National Honors Society.
The regional level of the National Honors Society primarily serves to stimulate discussion among school chapters regarding how the National Honors Society can best fulfill its commitment to its four pillars of character, scholarship, leadership and service.
Regional NHS leadership also ensures regional awareness and completion of statewide NHS service projects — this year, the state project entailed the making and donation of blankets to Project Linus, an organization dedicated to providing handmade blankets to children in need of comfort, whether due to illness or other causes.
In addition, the regional level of NHS facilitates monetary donations to local service organizations, like the homeless shelter. In May, students from schools throughout the Northern Region will be gathering in Presque Isle to volunteer at the Special Olympics, one more example of coordination on the regional level.
