April vacation activities

The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will host events throughout the remainder of April vacation week.

Today, Presque Isle will have a team in the County Indoor Soccer Tournament in Madawaska. The tourney is for those in grades 6-8.

Thursday features the annual Peanut Carnival. This event starts at 1:30 p.m. and ending at 3 p.m. This event is for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. There is a fee of $1 for this event, which will gives youths their starter coins and qualifies them for drawing for a new bicycle, donated by Dead River Convenience Store.

Friday is “movie day” at the Braden Theater. “Hop” will be the feature presentation. Youths in grades 1-6 can attend and the fee is $5 per child, which will include the movie, a small popcorn and a small soft drink. Participants must be dropped off at the theater by 9:30 a.m. and picked up at 11:30 a.m.

Following the movies, “contest day” will take place at the community center for grades 1-6. Kids will test their skills in Connect Four, Ping-Pong, checkers, and other games. This will run from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday is also “dollar day” at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool from 1-2:45 p.m.

Open gym will also be offered Friday from 1-3 p.m. for grades K-6 and from 3-5 p.m. for grades 7-12.

Adult volleyball

The recreation department is offering adult volleyball Sundays from 5-7 p.m. This program is informal and cost $1 per session.  If interested, contact the recreation center at 764-2545 or contact Tammy Lothrop at 227-0712.

Northern Zumba

The recreation department and Northern Zumba are pleased to offer ZUMBA! This program will be offered Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings from 9-10 a.m. The fee for the program is $6 per class or $50 for 10 classes. Birthday parties at the pool and recreation center

The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will host birthday parties for ages 4 and up at the recreation center in addition to hosting parties at the indoor pool. The recreation center is available Friday and Saturday nights from 6-8 p.m., with one hour of organized gym games included in the rental.  Activities vary with age groups, but include wiffleball, soccer, basketball and kickball.

Men’s basketball

The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is offering men’s basketball Tuesday and Thursdays nights from 7-9 p.m. This program is for individuals over 18 years of age, and/or is out of high school.  This program is informal and costs $1 per night.
