Homemakers resume schedule
Following a hiatus from their regular meeting schedule during cold, slippery January and February, the Spragueville Homemakers Extension resumed their regular meeting schedule on Monday, March 28, at the home of Rose Barnes, with 11 members and two guests present.
President Sylvia Harper called the meeting to order, took roll call and led the group in the Homemaker’s Creed.
Due to the absence of Secretary/Treasurer LaVone Walters, her reports were not given. Sylvia read a “thank you” from the animal shelter for the Extension’s Christmastime donations. She also reported that a donation had been received from Scott Thompson, for the group’s assistance during the Take It Outside Family Fun Day at Aroostook State Park.
Ann Knight read a nice note received from member Mildred Beaulier, from Florida, stating how much she missed being part of all the activities the group has been involved in this winter. The note included a monetary donation to aid in any expenses. Ann said Mildred had been thanked for her thoughtfulness.
Sylvia thanked members for all their involvement in the Stew Night, Family Fun Day, biathlon event and OTC Fun Day. Compliments were received from all venues for time served and yummy goodies. Sylvia then mentioned that a new electric can opener and message board is needed and would be greatly appreciated at the Presque Isle Snowmobile Clubhouse. It was voted and seconded to purchase these items.
Under New Business: Sylvia announced that the County Extension Spring Meeting would be held Saturday, April 16, at the Covenant Church in New Sweden.
The State Spring Meeting will be help Saturday, April 30, at 9:30 a.m., at the Morgan Hill Event Center in Herman. Those planning to attend discussed lodging arrangements. The theme of the meeting will be “A Spring Tea.” All members who wish to participate are asked to bring a hat to wear and a teacup to use during the luncheon. A discussion was held on a theme for the raffle gift basket to be taken to the meeting. In conjunction with the “A Spring Tea” theme, it was decided to include items pertaining to a “tea.” This event surely sounds like a fun time to be had!
President Sylvia also announced that the State Fall Meeting would be held in Presque Isle at The Crow’s Nest, Sept. 24-25; more details will be forthcoming.
Lois Griffin reported that she had recently been to Albuquerque, N.M. to attend a job-training seminar. She showed a brochure on an upcoming Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, to be held in October. The photos were truly beautiful, and it should be an awesome event! It was decided to have “Sunshine Lady” Lois send our shut-in members Easter Cards from their “Extension Sisters.”
Following the meeting, Sylvia introduced Guest Speaker Tracy Spooner, a licensed massage therapist. Tracy gave an interesting program, explaining various types of massage therapy for different purposes, and also passed out informational brochures. A question and answer time was held, followed by Tracy giving chair massages to several members. All those having a massage agreed, “It felt so-o-o good!”
During the massage time, refreshments were served by Marilyn Wheeler, Marianne Thomas and Rose Barnes.
The next meeting of the Spragueville Extension will be held on Monday, April 25, at 7 p.m. Members are to meet at Carmen Wiggins home, then all will travel for a tour of Sylvia Buob’s Garden Gate Fabrics Shop in East Chapman. Following the tour, members will return to Carmen’s for a short business meeting and refreshments.
