The Caribou Choral Society will present its 33rd annual Spring Concert on Saturday, May 7 at the Holy Rosary Church in Caribou and on Sunday, May 8 at St. Mary’s Church in Presque Isle.
Under the direction of Dan Lander, the combination of 55 musically talented voices will present “As Long As We Have Music,” a program that promises an evening filled with familiar songs, featuring “The Gift to be Simple,” “Black is the Color,” “Danny Boy,” “As Time Goes By,” “Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit,” the theme from the Broadway musical “New York, New York,” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Eleven other songs will complete the concert program.
“We have about the same number (55) of members now as when the choral society was first organized, “ stated Ladner. “There was a period of time though when we had over 100, of course the population around here was much higher then. I think the group sounds fantastic for just being a mid-size chorus (as community choruses go.) The singers never cease to amaze me at concert time.”
Whether it is a Spring or holiday concert; the Caribou Choral Society members, guided by the ever energetic and talented Ladner, provide music that immediately engages their audience, which can’t help but move to the music or find themselves humming along with the traditional favorites. All too soon the concert is over but the memory and the music lingers for a long, long time.
The May 7 concert in Caribou at the Holy Rosary Church will begin at 7 p.m. On Sunday, May 8, the performance at St. Mary’s Church in Presque Isle begins at 3 p.m.
There is no admission cost to attend these concerts but donations are accepted to help with the expense of sheet music used by the choral members.
