PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook County Republican Committee is continuing its drive to organize all Aroostook County towns. Following caucus events in Northern and Central Aroostook in recent weeks, the next caucus event will be held in Houlton, Saturday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the Elm Tree North.
“This is our third grass-roots caucus event,” said former state Senator Hayes Gahagan, chairman of the Aroostook County Republican Committee. “In these challenging economic times, we must not fail to recognize that government has become the problem; it is not the solution. Our goal in facilitating regional caucus events is to motivate and activate traditional conservatives to elect representatives who will: (1) control spending and taxation (2) refocus energy and other federal and state policies towards domestic growth and expansion and (3) preserve and protect our individual freedom.”
Gahagan added, “The Republican Party has three major segments: (1) National Security Conservative(2) Fiscal Conservative and (3) Social Conservative. The last time these three segments fully and effectively engaged as a political force was during the Presidency of Ronald Reagan. Just as the Democratic Party has been successful in forming a coalition of diverse political views, the Republican Party must also form a new coalition. The New American Majority will be the coalition of National Security and Fiscal Conservatives composed of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.”
Gahagan said, “Here in Aroostook County, we’re already seeing the coalition forming between conservative Kennedy Democrats and conservative Jeffersonian Republicans. We believe this new coalition within the Republican Party can be effective in electing National Security and Fiscal Conservatives at the County, State and Federal Levels.”
To attend the caucus event, town residents should register to vote in their Town Office and enroll in the Republican Party.
Gahagan said the Aroostook County Republican Committee will continue facilitating regional caucus events in North, Central and Southern Aroostook to encourage greater citizen participation in electing traditional conservatives to public office.
