American Flag ColorPRESQUE ISLE – Philip H. Hayden, 90, died Saturday May 14, 2011, in Presque Isle, following a period of declining health. Philip was the youngest of seven children, born to Pearle and Alice (Bell) Hayden on Feb. 4, 1921, in Presque Isle. He attended Presque Isle schools and made his family proud when he was the only son to graduate high school. Philip enrolled in the U.S. Army in 1942, and served at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Ord, California. In 1943, he married Iris Adams and together they raised three daughters.

Philip was employed by ABC Baking Co., which later became Country Kitchen Bakery in 1954, and stayed with them until his retirement in 1991. Philip loved skating, mostly on ice, but had great fun on the roller blades he received on his 75th birthday. Every night at 7 p.m., you could find him walking at the mall. He must have covered enough ground to have walked to Florida several times over, during those years. He was a hardworking, honest man who saw and enjoyed the humor in life. He never had a bad word to say of anyone and was a loyal friend. He earned the love and respect of those who knew him.

Philip was predeceased by his wife of 57 years in 2001; and his grandson, John Thomas Driscoll in 2004.

He is survived by his daughters: Nancy Hayden of Portland, Joanne Driscoll and her husband, Gerry of Presque Isle, Karen Holbrook and her husband, Andrew of Windham, and his #1 grandson David Driscoll and his wife, Vonda of Leesburg, VA.

To celebrate the life of Philip Hayden, the family invites you to join them at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, at 6 p.m., Sat. June 4, 2011.
