Park supporter issues challenge

MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

A challenge has been submitted to all by a Baptist Park supporter.

For every $1 that is raised, this donor is willing to match it up to $7,000, and the board is willing to match another $1,100. How can you help us? Send your check to Baptist Park with the words “Matching Funds” on the memo line by June 26 — the first day of camp. Only donations specified “Matching Funds” will be matched. The donor was aware of many upcoming large roofing projects, but the donor did not want to specify how the funds were to be spent. The executive board made a decision to designate 25 percent to scholarships, 25 percent to operations, and 50 percent to buildings and grounds with a priority on roofing larger buildings. Please pray for God’s will in this campaign. God continues to shower His blessings on Baptist Park! All of us at Baptist Park extend a special thank you to the donor and his/her family, and all who participate in this campaign!

THE MAPLETON BAPTIST YOUTH GROUP held a very successful car wash after having to reschedule once due to rain, then battling cool wet conditions during the event. Participating in the fundraiser were, from left, front row: Shane Baker, Jesse Hatcher, Jessica Baldwin, Tyler Cornelio, Ashley Turner, Daisy Hatcher, Victoria Butterfield, Josh Baldwin, Bethany Baker, Braighton A. and Megan Turner. Back row: Grace Braley, Catharine Butterfield, Youth Leader Isaac Ashby and Jared Kilcollins. The group thanks the public for their support and generosity.

We are in need of a camp nurse/health supervisor for Lifting Off Week (ages 11-14). This position requires that we have an EMT, LPN, RN, PA, doctor, or a person holding a Wilderness First Aid Certificate. If you are certified and available, please contact Annette Bartlett at 852-9836 or abartlett@tds.net. Also, Adrian is looking for individuals to teach classes at Baptist Park. If you are available even for one or two days, he’d love to talk with you. He can be reached at 647-3693 or by e-mail at rhjugglesh@yahoo.com. Please add the staff to your prayer list that God may begin preparing their hearts for the mission God has planned for them at Baptist Park this summer.

We need to make an addition to the camp brochure! Baptist Park is hosting its first cheerleading camp from June 26-July 1. Presque Isle High School varsity cheerleading coach Jolene Kinney has agreed to lead this camp. The camp is open to cheerleaders entering grades 7-12. The cost for the camp is $225. Cheerleaders will be perfecting cheer motions, learning proper stunting techniques, improving their jumps, practicing gymnastics, and learning cheers and pep dances. Spread the word to any cheerleader you know.

If you or your church need more camp brochures, please send an e-mail to abartlett@tds.net. The schedule can also be viewed at our website, www.baptistpark.net.

Mark your calendars: Work Day is set for Saturday, June 4. Please round up your crews! RSVP to Scott Ashby, John Seiler or Ray Gough at 764-1832, so they can properly prepare projects for everyone. We have projects for all abilities. Lunch will be provided at noon. Hope to see you there!!

THE MAPLETON LIONS CLUB held a benefit supper for one of their members and Mapleton resident, Murrey Boyles. Many family, friends and residents of the surrounding communities enjoyed a wonderful meal at the Lions Hall while displaying their support and generosity. Helping with the supper were, from left, front row: 2011 Queens, Miss Mapleton Kelsey Buck and Junior Miss Mapleton Emma Langille. Middle row: Little Miss Mapleton Madelyn Buzza, Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton Sarah Craig and Lions Member Spanky White. Back row: Lions Club members Dale McHatten, Bob McBay, Dennis Hoffses, Allen Salo, Tim Graham, Steve Hanning, Wes Buck, Frank Richards, Ron Leonard, Terry Sandusky and Matt Gregg.

The Club wishes to thank everyone who supported the dinner with contributions including generous business sponsors and helpful individuals. Most notable in our thanks is to all who baked a chocolate cake for the supper. These cakes were delicious.

The club wishes to thank Mapleton Queens Madelyn Buzza, Sarah Craig, Emma Langille and Kelsey Buck who were our special servers at the supper. The club’s extraordinary sauce chefs for the evening were Lion Frank Richards and his wife, Gaye, and the spaghetti chefs were Lions Tim Graham and Bob McBay. A special thanks to the wives of the lions who baked and made the salads that were enjoyed by everyone.

Murrey was able to be there for an hour and enjoyed seeing everyone who came early. He does want to thank everyone who came and all those who he was not able to stay and meet late in the evening. While he has several challenges ahead, he was heartened by the turnout of family and friends to talk with him and offer him their support and concern.

The Mapleton Lions Club would like to add their thanks for the community support for Murrey, as well.
