PRE-KINDERGARTNERS at the SAD 1 Skyway Education Center in Presque Isle recently donated boxes of aluminum tabs to Papi the Clown (Stan Baker) who visited the classroom. For the past few years, Baker has visited the pre-K students and then applies his makeup and costume in front of them in hopes of alleviating any fears they may have of clowns. As a way to thank Baker for his efforts, school officials thought it would be nice to collect and donate the aluminum tabs, which the Shriners use as a fundraiser. Pictured with Papi are, from left: Gavin Dunleavy, Nevaeh Hendrickson, Eli Murchison and Georgia Theriault. The pre-K teachers are Amy Daniels and Enola Boyce.

Actually, Papi arrived as Stan Baker, and applied his makeup and costume in front of the children in hopes of alleviating any fears students may have of clowns.

“Stan has done this for us for the past three or four years,” said pre-K teacher Amy Daniels. “This year, we wanted to do something special to say ‘thank you.’ At the beginning of the year, we asked students to collect aluminum tabs. Shriners use these as a fundraiser so we thought it would be a nice way to ‘pay’ Papi for coming every year.

“When Papi finished his tricks, we gave him two large boxes full of tabs,” she said. “He was very grateful and moved by our donation. I know Stan visits many area schools, and perhaps other schools will do the same next year. It’s an easy way to make a donation to the Shriners that anyone can do.”
