The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management are pleased to announce the 2011 Disabled Veterans’ Controlled Moose Hunt Lottery is open.
Qualified disabled veterans have until July 8, 2011 to submit an application.
Dave Hentosh of Smoldering Lake Outfitters and Paul House of House in the Woods Military and Family Retreat and their friends will return this year as guides for the disabled veterans. The 2010 hunt went 6 for 6 under their expert guidance.
The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has allocated 10 moose hunting permits to disabled veterans to participate in the Controlled Moose Hunt in Aroostook County. The dates for the hunt are expected to be Sept. 14-23, 2011 and will occur on farm land in Aroostook County specified by Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
To qualify for the lottery a Maine veteran must have the State of Maine Disabled Veterans Hunting License issued by IF&W.
All in-state applications will be placed in a lottery and the drawing for seven permits will take place on July 15, 2011. This year we will have three “Wounded Warriors” from across the nation join Maine’s disabled veterans in the 2011 Controlled MooseHunt.
