Grant aids summer reading program

The Cary Library recently benefited from the generosity of the Maine Community Foundation to help support their summer reading program. The library received a grant for $1,000 from the Rose and Samuel Rudman Library Fund to help support the 2011 summer reading program.
The theme for the children’s summer program is “One World, Many Stories”.
“This grant allows us to purchase books, educational posters, audiobooks and DVDs helping to increase our library materials available for children and young adults. We will have an activity every Wednesday from 3 to 4 during our five week program,” said Linda Faucher, librarian.
The summer program starts with sign-up the week of June 20th and reporting will start the following week (June 27th).
“Our goal, by the end of our program, is to have everyone leave with a better understanding of the world we live in, how we are the same as well as different through literary reading, learning about children in other lands and creating crafts that are done in other countries,” she added.
“Many libraries operate with budgets that are stretched to the limit and struggle to provide programs for children realizing how important it is for our community youth to have a venue to develop and grow as individuals. We are very pleased that the Maine Community Foundation recognizes this and we are appreciative of the Rose and Samuel Rudman Library grant that enables us to explore ‘One World, Many Stories,”” Faucher said.
