As one legendary major leaguer said, “A man never stands taller than when he stoops to help a boy.”
Each Monday at 8 a.m., Bruce Nason and David Grant stand tall as they hold a clinic at the Houlton Community Golf Course. Youngsters, both boys and girls, are learning the joy of hitting a golf ball. There are over 50 of them between the ages of 8 and 14, although age is not a factor as anyone of any age can be part of this program. Just call the golf course for details.
The June 21 Ladies’ League game was “Bunker Down,” and the results were as follows: A Division, first, Misty Marino and tied for second, Barbara Moakler and Lois Fenlason; B Division, first, Lori Holmes; second, Pam Mailman and third, Brittany Benn; C Division, first, Marianne Marciniak; second, Jane Phipps and third, Betty Anderson; D Division, first, Kerry Putnam; second, Glenda Riley and third, Mary Grant.
Men’s Twilight League standings as of July 23: Shanksville Duffers Division, first, Bill Marciniak and Malcolm Mersereau, 11 points and second, Jerry York and Bob Gray, 11 points; The Hack Attack Division, first, Marty Bouchard and Mike Fogarty, 12 points and Tony Marino and Andrew Peabody, 11 points; the Chili Dippers Division, first, Wayne Belyea and Mike Kelly, 11 points and Gabe Goodwin and Dan Peabody, 11 points.
One note, if you heard what you thought was thunder around 5:30 p.m. on June 23, it wasn’t thunder, but the screams of anguish by Wayne Quint and David Grant, as Bill Marciniak sank a 50-foot putt to help he and Malcolm Mersereau down Wayne and David.
This weekend, the annual Houlton High School Alumni Reunion will be held with the Class of 1961 featured. A social event is planned for Friday evening with all invited. Saturday morning, a nine-hole four-man scramble is planned with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration for the scramble is at 8:30 a.m. This is a fun event and it should have a good field. Again, for further details, call the club at 532-2662.
Incidentally, I have not yet been sued by David Moore, although I have heard rumors — Can one be sued for telling the truth?
