Mapleton trucker escapes injury

    PITTSFIELD — A Mapleton truck driver escaped serious injury in an accident that claimed the life of a Clinton man on June 15.
    According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Steve McCausland, the accident occurred in Pittsfield on Route 2, more commonly referred to as Canaan Road, around 5 p.m.
    Raymond Moody, 51, of Clinton, was killed when his Harley-Davidson motorcycle veered into the path of a logging truck, got caught underneath the truck’s front end and caught fire. The driver of the truck, Jeremy Lane, 25, of Mapleton, was able to escape the burning truck without injury. The truck was owned by the family business, B. Lane Logging of Sherman.
    Troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit assisted Pittsfield police with the investigation, which is ongoing.
    Both the motorcycle and the truck were considered a total loss. The trailer, which was loaded with logs, was not damaged in the fire.
