Rotary golf eventset for July 9
PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Rotary Club is holding its sixth annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 9th to benefit the repair of the ski lift at the Quoggy Jo Ski Center and the purchase of a rescue boggan for the Nordic Heritage Center.
The past five Rotary tournaments have raised more than $50,000 for area charities.
Quoggy Jo Ski Center, according to event chair Jennifer Flynn, is a perfect place for first time skiers and families with young children and has been a weekend destination and “hang-out” for youth in the community for several generations. After years of usage, the ski lift is now in need of many repairs that will ensure the long life of the lift and the equipment in rental room needs to be replenished.
Each year the Nordic Heritage Sports Club hosts several events, whether it is a high school ski meet or a World Cup biathlon event. Currently the club does not own a rescue boggan, and must borrow one from a local fire department. With the money raised through the Presque Isle Rotary Golf Tournament, the Nordic Heritage Sports Club will be able to purchase its own rescue boggan to have on site year-round.
The golf tournament, to be held a the Presque Isle Country Club, will feature cash prizes for the winning teams in both mens and womens divisions and gross and net score categories, as well as prizes for closest to the pin, including a $250 Daigle Oil gift certificate and many others. The tournament will also have prizes for longest drives, and a putting contest. There will be an opportunity to win a new car for a hole-in-one sponsored by Percy’s Auto Sales.
A barbecue lunch will be provided to all golfers courtesy of Star City IGA. A shotgun start is at 9 a.m., with registration at 8:00. There are no handicap restrictions for the three-person team handicap, and the team registration fee is $120.
