Senior golfers open season in Fort Fairfield

    The opening tournament of the St. John Valley Senior Golf Association was held June 15 at the Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield.
    There were 163 players, with Warren Walker of VaJoWa scoring a 69 for the overall low gross and Houlton’s Jerry York carded a 69 for low net overall.
    Division A gross winners were: Walker, 69; Gary Greene, Covered Bridge, 74 and Dan Hotham, Presque Isle Country Club, 74. Net, York, 69, Steve Edwards, VaJoWa, 70 and Jacques Garant, Grand Falls, 70.
    Division B gross winners were: Charles Violette, Presque Isle Country Club, 80; Darrell MacQuarrie, Covered Bridge, 82 and Wilson Patterson, Covered Bridge, 84. Net, Earl Toner, Grand Falls, 67; Ron Arbeau, Covered Bridge, 71 and Harold Clark, Presque Isle Country Club, 73.
    Division C gross winners were: Ed Marshall, Edmundston, 84; Willard Cyr, Edmundston, 88 and Darrell Anderson, Covered Bridge, 89. Net, David Garnett, Aroostook Valley Country Club, 69; Roy Layte, Covered Bridge, 74 and Jon Smallwood, VaJoWa, 76.
    Division D gross winners were: Eric Scott, Caribou, 85; Robert Burns, Limestone, 91 and Lawrence Ouellette, Edmundston, 92. Net, Dale Morris, Aroostook Valley Country Club, 70; Dan Boyd, Presque Isle Country Club, 74 and Ken Jones, Covered Bridge, 75.
    Division E gross winners were: Terry Duffy, VaJoWa, 94; David Griffiths, Presque Isle Country Club, 94 and Galen Cote, Presque Isle Country Club, 95. Net, Elbridge Judkins, Presque Isle Country Club, 73; Gerard Landry, Edmundston, 74 and Al Skolfield, VaJoWa, 74.
    Division F gross winners were: Nelson Sleeper, Aroostook Valley Country Club, 94; Al Giberson, Presque Isle Country Club, 98 and Jim Kelley, Portage Hills, 101. Net, Martin Theriault, Grand Falls, 67; Stephen Walker, VaJoWa, 72 and George Morneault, Long Lake, 77.
