Spud Cycle Classic has close finish

More than 25 bicyclists tackled hot and humid conditions on Sunday, July 17 to take part in the annual Spud Cycle Classic race during the Maine Potato Blossom Festival.

37-year-old Thad LaVallee of Boston completed the 25-mile course one second ahead of 21-year-old Brendan McLaughlin of Fort Fairfield. LaVallee’s winning time was 1:02:32.

The top female finisher was 50 year-old Frances Prest of Presque Isle in 1:26:47.

Other age division winners included 13-year-old Megan Towle of Fort Fairfield, 17-year old Kylie Plourde of Fort Fairfield, 38-year old Steve Connor of Dedham, 49-year-old Jim Wohlsemth of Carmel, 52-year old Verla Brooks of Lisbon, 52-year old Von Perry of Easton and 66-year old Marcel Bastide of Orrington.
