    OAKFIELD – Carl L. Smith, 64, passed away Aug. 22, 2011, with family and friends by his side. He was born July 17, 1947, son of Peter A. and Grace I. Smith of Houlton.
    Carl loved hunting and fishing with his best friends, Alice Smith and Richard Altmannsberger.
    He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ella (White) Smith of Oakfield; son, Ernest P. Smith and his wife, Regina, of Limestone; daughter, Carla M. Cummings and her husband, Troy, of Coppers Cove, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Gidget Smith of Houlton; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; five sisters, Carollyn “Kay” Lynds of Monticello, Shirley Smith and Omar Ayyad of Phoenix, Grace Y. Hafford of Houlton, Pearl Walker and Larry of Linneus, and Linda Polchies and Louis II of Princeton; and two brothers, Kenneth Smith and Joyce of Littleton, and Gary Smith Sr. and his fiancee, Kerry Walsh, of New Limerick; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; son, Thomas A. Smith; granddaughter, Carla “CJ” Smith; and sister, Gloria Conners.
