Customers go Deep In The Woods

The Deep In The Woods Gift Shop continues to enhance its displays with new artisans and decorating ideas.

They carry a wide selection of quality Maine-made products featuring artisans from Aroostook County and beyond. Owners Steven and Judy Sherman create a warm atmosphere for their customers offering tea or coffee while they browse. Often times there will be some fresh baked goodies offered as well.

Customer appreciation is always a top priority at Deep In The Woods from free gift-wrapping to digging field-grown perennials in the pouring rain.

The newest artisans are Sheralyn Morris, Therese Lussier and Rachel Campbell.

Judy’s latest prints are The OxBow Church, Mt. Katahdin, The Homestead Lodge, and Red Fox in Winter. Judy is kept busy doing special orders for her customers. She is currently working on illustrations for a new coloring book that Phyllis and Leonard Hutchins are creating for the United Way of Aroostook.

Their antique, vintage and collectible section continues to be a big hit.

New Christmas items are just in and Judy is busy creating “A Winter Wonderland” room to showcase all these beautiful pieces.

Deep in the Woods Gift Shop was one of the nominees for Aroostook’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. While they didn’t win, Judy considered it a great honor just to be nominated.

“It shows that all of your hard work in promoting ‘The County’ is recognized,” she said.

Open Farm Day was a huge success with Steven showing off his Christmas tree farm, planting and hand-shearing techniques, etc. The gift shop was very busy; but, their pet pig, Charlotte, remains their biggest hit with the little ones.

The Deep In The Woods Gift Shop is open year-round with November and December being their busiest months.

Last year the Ashland Tiger Scouts toured the farm and picked out their trees to take home. They were amazed that the trees are 10 years old before they are ready to be cut.

The shop also donated to the Trees for Troops program again last year. Steven has been busy working the farm. He said, “The trees are looking great and will be ready.”
