Flowers: The perfect gift

Karen Duncan knows a lot about beauty and what makes a perfect celebration — whether you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary, wedding or any number of special occasions.

The owner of Cook Florist, Inc., located at 174 Main St. in Presque Isle, Duncan is surrounded daily by Mother Nature’s creations, from roses and carnations, to daisies, mums, lilies, a variety of houseplants and so much more.

Whether you’re in the market for a get-well bouquet or a house-warming gift, the local florist shop has something for every purpose.

“We design fresh flower arrangements, sell plants and deliver locally,” said Duncan, noting they can also wire flowers to destinations beyond the local market.

Customers can choose from a variety of containers, from coffee mugs to vases, suitable for men, women, teens and children. The business also carries a wide selection of helium balloons with a selection of designs for any occasion.

In business since 1943, Duncan said business has remained strong over the years thanks to a combination of customer service and the many customers who continue to come back year after year — some for generations.

“We have a great reputation and wonderful customers,” said Duncan.

In addition, Duncan said the family’s interest in the business, as well as the dedication of staff, have ensured success.

“We have a fourth generation starting at the shop, but we also have one employee who has been with us for over six decades — Patty Steeves. I also have two employees that have been here for 29 years,” said Duncan. “We also have wonderfully talented floral designers who create the most amazing and beautiful floral arrangements.”

Duncan said pleasing customers is of utmost importance, since the business factors into the creation of so many memories. Flower arrangements can make or break any occasion. Staff work passionately to make moments special. “Customer service is our highest priority. Without our customers, we wouldn’t be here,” said Duncan. “We’re a local business serving local people. We respect our patrons and do our best to please them.”
