Inspections a good investment

Aroostook Inspection Service offers residential and commercial property inspections for customers throughout Aroostook County and beyond.

Located at 52 Houlton Rd., Presque Isle, the business is owned by Shawn Manter.

“I’ve done insurance adjustment inspection work and adjustment work for many years now. I’ve just expanded on what I know. I use that experience to help customers find and address problems when home inspections are needed,” said Manter, who’s been doing evaluations for the past five years.

Manter stressed the importance of getting proper inspections and how it could help a property owner save money in the long run.

“I offer personalized service at an affordable price. While the price of a standard home inspection is less than one-half of 1 percent of the cost of a new home, the potential savings can be in the thousands of dollars,” said Manter, noting investing in an inspection is money well spent. “What you spend on an inspection could save you the expense of a big repair job later.”

Inspectors can find any number of problems, such as plumbing or electrical, that could cause major damage or destruction if not addressed. With Manter’s help, clients can prevent headaches from occurring down the road.

“Inspections are done from the ground up — basement to the roof. I work with both property owners and realtors,” said Manter.

“For a long time from Bangor south inspections and appraisals went hand-in-hand with home sales. Now more people are requesting such services north of Bangor,” said Manter.

Inspections are charged by the job, with prices varying depending on the type of structure.

Manter said he also has the ability to test for radon levels and water issues.

Services are available by appointment and can be done at the client’s convenience.

“Being flexible in our offerings and providing strong customer service is very important. Without strong customer service, businesses don’t stay open long. In rural areas it’s extremely important to treat everyone like they’re your best customers — they are. If you don’t, the word will get around and eventually your business sinks,” said Manter. “Good customers can be your best advertisement.”

Aroostook Inspection Service has one full-time and one part-time employee. Business hours are by appointment.
