PRESQUE ISLE — Participants of a recent fundraiser might not have been making much headway, but they did raise a significant amount for the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club.

A group of residents took advantage of good weather on Saturday, Aug. 13, setting up several stationary bikes outside County Physical Therapy where they pedaled the morning away, while raising about $1,000 for the Kiwanis Club.

PEDALING FOR A PURPOSE — A group of spinners held a fund-raising event Aug. 13 at the North Street Plaza in Presque Isle, raising over $1,100 for the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club. Deirdre Ames and Jill Elsworth participated but chose to spin in the shade. Also assisting with the fundraiser was LaNiece Winslow, who managed the bake sale.

“The spinners had a great day. It was 80 degrees as we pedaled approximately 45 miles,” said Dawn Poitras, certified spinning instructor, of the The Aroostook Medical Center.

This isn’t the first time Poitras has participated in such a fundraiser.

“This is my fourth year doing this. It is so fun and of course the event helps out our local charitites,” said Poitras.

In addition to spinning, the group also held a bake sale.

SPINNERS AID KIWANIS — A donation was made recently to the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club by the Spinners at The Aroostook Medical Center. Pictured is Dawn Poitras, Spinner chairperson; presenting a check for $1,193 to A.J. Cloukey, Kiwanis Club president.

Joining Poitras for the spinning event were Ann Sirois, Haley Powers, Michaela St. Onge, Tom Richard, Stacy Shaw, Greg Palm, Bob Sirois, Deirdre Ames and Jill Elsworth. LaNiece Winslow managed the bake sale.

“Most of us did our spinning in the sun, although Deirdre and Jill chose to spin in the shade,” Poitras said.

Poitras said the money raised was presented to the Kiwanis Club the following week during the club’s regular meeting.

“I presented a check for $1,193 to Kiwanis Club President A.J. Cloukey,” said Poitras, also a club member.

The money is expected to be used by the Kiwanis Club toward the annual Christmas Basket Project.
