Evelyn Mary (Plourde) Paul
PAUL, Evelyn Mary (Plourde), 63, PRESQUE ISLE & CARIBOU, at Caribou, August 27, 2011. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Homes, Presque Isle.
PRESQUE ISLE & CARIBOU – Evelyn Mary (Plourde) Paul, 63, went to her heavenly home on August 27, 2011, at her home in Caribou. She was born February 9, 1948, in Caribou.
Evelyn became a born again believer in April of 1986 and experienced a radical transformation in her life as witnessed by all who knew her. She was the first in her family to obtain a college degree, first an Associate’s from NMVTI and then a Bachelor’s in accounting from UMPI. She was able to earn each of these degrees while raising her family.
A longtime active member of Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, Evelyn served for many years as a Sunday school teacher, Christian Youth Crusades director, Director of Vacation Bible school, Best Years Fellowship director and church office manager. She also cooked at Riverside Camp, a very special place in her heart, for over 12 years. Evelyn was an Adult Education instructor, and like many other accountants, she loved tax season. Her home was always open to family members in need of a place to stay. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting blankets, mittens, socks and hats. She made annual donations of mittens to the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club for their Christmas baskets and every child in her grandson’s classes from kindergarten through grade 5, got a pair of mittens for Christmas from “Santa”. Evelyn had a very witty sense of humor, was an ardent fan of the Red Sox, and loved music, despite the fact that she was well-known to be tone deaf.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Penney Siddiqui and husband, Joseph of Caribou, and Jenny Paul of Nashua, NH; a sister who was like a daughter, Dorothy Saunders and husband, Rodney of Limestone; and a nephew who was like a son, Michael Plourde of Presque Isle. She is also survived by her grandson whom she lovingly referred to as her “favorite boy in the whole wide world,” Braden Daniel Paul; and her granddaughter, known as her “favorite girl in the whole wide world,” Abigail Joanna Siddiqui. Additional family members include brothers and sisters, Obeline Morrell, Beatrice Caron and husband, Gilman, all of Caribou, Dennis Plourde and wife, Ruth of Aberdeen, Maryland, Christine Plourde of Dallas, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and two very dear Christian sisters, Janice Lamb and Mary Trainer both of Presque Isle.
Evelyn was predeceased by her mother, Beatrice (Bolstridge) Plourde; two brothers, Albert and Paul Plourde; and a sister, Millie Abbott.
Funeral services were conducted 5 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, at the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church. Relatives and friends called at the church from 4 p.m., until the time of the service. There was a private interment in Estes Park Cemetery in Easton. Donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to Riverside Camp, P.O. Box 763, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
