The second full week of the high school soccer regular season is in the books and some teams are still looking for their first wins, while others are gaining valuable points toward the post season.
Washburn had a very successful week picking up wins over Ashland and Van Buren. Caribou is still looking for its first win of the year after losing a heartbreaker to Fort Kent earlier this week.
Summaries of some of the games played through Monday, Aug. 29 are as follows:
Fort Kent 3, Caribou 2 – At Caribou, Abe Desjardins directed a cross from Brandon Hartt past Caribou goalkeeper Matt Manter with 1:33 remaining in regulation to propel Fort Kent to a 3-2 victory over Caribou high school boys soccer action Monday night.
Chad Caverhill’s first-half goal, off a Sean Barbosa assist, staked 0-2 Caribou to a 1-0 lead but Desjardins drew Fort Kent level off an Antonia Naranja assist later in the half. Dean Walker’s 22-yard shot gave Caribou its second one-goal lead midway through the second half.
Van Buren 2, Fort Fairfield 1 – At Van Buren on Saturday, Caleb Roy scored on a direct kick with 19:47 left in the second half to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead and the margin of victory.
Johnny Theriault scored off a rebound with 15:35 left in the game for 1-4 Fort Fairfield. Jake Wortman made eight saves on 11 shots.
Madawaska 4, Caribou 0 – At Madawaska on Friday, Dylan Wetmore, Sam Cyr and Jake Gendreau each registered a goal and an assist to propel the Owls to victory over the Vikings.
Matt Manter made five saves on nine shots for 0-1 Caribou.
Easton 7, Fort Fairfield 0 – At Fort Fairfield on Thursday, Holden Turner scored five goals to help lead the Bears beat the Tigers. Reid Clark and Ian Sotomayor each chipped in with a goal for the 3-1 winners. Cody Tompkins made four saves on seven shots.
For the 1-2 Tigers, Chris Weeks made 10 saves on 20 shots.
Washburn 3, Van Buren 0 – Jordan McLaughlin scored a goal in each half, sparking the home team Beavers to victory over the Crusaders. Cameron Bragg collected the other goal for Washburn, with Nick Bragg notching an assist. Mitchell Worcester made eight saves on 10 shots.
Hodgdon 6, Limestone-MSSM 0 – At Hodgdon, Devon Quint scored three goals in his varsity debut and classmate Chris Hudson added two goals as the Hawks opened their season with a victory.
Dylan Nadeau made six saves on 19 shots for Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.
