Presque Isle opens up with tie
against the Caribou Vikings

The Washburn Beavers remained atop the Eastern Maine Class D standings by collecting two more victories last week, over Fort Fairfield and Central Aroostook, and in the process moved to 7-0 on the season.

Caribou and PI played to a scoreless tie on the Vikings’ home field last Wednesday and the Vikings and the Wildcats both garnered shutout victories Saturday. Caribou is in first place in EM Class B with its 3-0-1 mark.
Summaries of matches played through Saturday are as follows:
Presque Isle 4, Old Town 0 — On Saturday afternoon in Presque Isle, the Wildcats collected their first win behind senior Kayla Richards, who put in three of her team’s goals.
Chandler Guerrette was PI’s other goal scorer. Chelsea Nickerson, Hannah Graham and Elise Jones garnered assists for the 1-0-1 Wildcats. Meredith Stewart had four saves while facing just six shots in goal for OT, which was playing its regular-season opener.
Ashley Abbott had 15 saves on 20 shots for the Coyotes.
Easton 8, Wisdom 0 — Seven different players scored goals Friday as the Bears blanked the Pioneers in St. Agatha for their fifth win in seven matches.
Carla Halvorson was the lone repeat scorer, while Mariah Cyr, Mikaela Hathaway, Megan Frank, Samanth Buck, Cassandra Buck and Kennedy Young also found the back of the net for coach Rachel Tomlinson’s squad, currently in fourth place in EM Class D.
Kaitlin Monroe posted the goalie shutout by saving all seven shots she faced.
Taylor Hobbs turned away 14 of 23 shots in goal for the Pioneers, who fell to 1-5-1.
Washburn 4, Fort Fairfield 0 — The Beavers improved to 7-0 following a shutout victory over the Tigers Thursday in Washburn.
Carsyn Koch tallied a pair of goals, while Carmen Bragg and Mackenzie Worcester netted one each to pace the Beavers, which outshot FF, 31-11.
Worcester added an assist and teammate Rayah Saucier collected eight saves in goal.
Katy Donovan made 16 saves in goal for the 3-2 Tigers, the second-place team in EM Class D.
Madawaska 4, Central Aroostook 0 — At Mars Hill Thursday, the Owls blanked the Panthers behind a pair of goals off the foot of Nicole Cyr.
Meagan Ouellette and Shannon Blanchette also tallied goals for Madawaska, which moved to 2-3 on the campaign. Goalkeeper Meagan Pelletier had 10 saves in collecting the shutout.
Paige Garrison saved five of 12 shots for CA, which dropped to 1-4-1.

Caribou 0, Presque Isle 0 — Swan saved seven of 18 shots and her goalkeeping helped the Vikings finish in a deadlock with the Wildcats at Caribou last Wednesday under the lights.
Stewart had five saves on 10 shots as PI was making its regular-season debut.
Easton 3, Ashland 2 — The Bears completed the season sweep over the Hornets last Wednesday in Presque Isle thanks to a furious late-game comeback.
Cyr tied the score with just 1:05 left before assisting Halvorson on the game-winner, which came just 35 seconds into the second overtime period.
Mindy Desmond had an assist on the tying goal. Stephanie Hammond tallied Easton’s first goal and Monroe saved 11 of 27 shots in goal.
Marissa Chasse and Anna Paradis scored goals for the Hornets, which fell to 1-3. Kayla Cote had an assist and goalkeeper Macie Bellanceau collected 15 saves on 19 shots.
Washburn 3, Central Aroostook 1 — The score was tied at 1 at intermission last Tuesday in Mars Hill, but the Beavers struck for a pair of second-half goals to earn another victory.
Koch scored the tie-breaking goal 15 minutes into the second half and Worcester notched an insurance goal with four minutes to go. Mikayla Churchill scored off a Koch assist in the first half.
Saucier saved three of five shots in goal for the Beavers.
Vicki McIntyre netted an unassisted goal and Garrison saved five of 13 shots for the Panthers.
