Animals wait for ‘new beginning’

Have you ever visited the Central Aroostook Humane Society? Do you know what we are all about?
We are all about saving lives — the lives of unwanted, homeless animals in our area. We work very hard to ensure the health of the animals at our shelter and do our best to find these animals loving, responsible homes. We are not “the pound.” When I think of “the pound,” I think of a dark, damp place where there is no hope. We are a place of hope and new beginnings.
We are working every day at the Central Aroostook Humane Society to raise awareness. We list our animals on various forums and have been known to keep animals for as long as it takes to find them the right home. There is no time limit on the lives of the animals that stay with us.
If you want to find out more, we welcome you to stop by and ask for a tour. We also visit groups to educate and inform the public as to who we are, what we are doing and what you can do to help.
Are you ready for winter? Temperatures are dropping and that means that we must be more aware of the health and well-being of our animals. Dogs need a warm shelter out of the wind. The warmest and most recommended bedding to use is straw.
Be sure your outside cats have a place to get in out of the wind as well. Now is also the time to start feeding a bit more if you have animals that are outside a lot; and of course it is very important that animals have fresh, clean water at all times. Keep your eyes open, be aware of animals in need and call your local law enforcement agency if you feel that animals are being neglected, especially during the cold winter months.
If you are looking for a friend for life, please consider adopting from the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, or give us a call at 764-3441.
Please have your pets spayed or neutered.
