PRESQUE ISLE — Preparations are under way for a Wine Tasting Gala and Silent Auction to be held in October to benefit the Presque Isle Historical Society.
“The Historical Society will be holding the event at the Northern Maine Community College on Friday, Oct. 21. The Silent Auction will run all day, starting around 10 a.m. and anyone may attend. There’s no cost to come and look,” said Kim Smith, treasurer, PIHS.
The Wine Tasting Gala will begin at 7 p.m.
“There will be music and hors d’oeuvres. The wines will be ones that people are not quite as familiar with, so as to make the evening even more interesting,” she said.
Smith indicated there will be special tables set up at which to sample wines in specific categories, including white, blushes, reds, sparkling and dessert wines.
“Each table will feature hors d’oeuvres to match the type of wine,” said Smith.
“The evening will begin with a brief presentation on how to ‘taste’ wines and what to look for as you taste each type,” continued Smith.
Tickets for the gala will be $25 per person or $40 per couple. Proceeds will benefit the Historical Society.
“Please reserve the date,” said Smith, adding, “in addition, we are looking for individuals willing to serve on the Gala Committee. The setup and serving will all be handled by NMCC.”
Committee members, according to Smith, will be asked to help “man the registration table and the auction payment table and to help solicit auction items.”
“We already have several items for the auction, so we are off to a good start,” said Smith. “We’re hoping to have 40-60 items.”
The next membership meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at NMCC, Edmunds Conference Room. The presentation that evening will be on The Aroostook War.
The final walking tour of the season will be held on Sept. 24.
