TRENTON and HOULTON – Norma Jean Reece, 80, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, after a long illness. She was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Upper Woodstock, New Brunswick, daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (Abbott) Hussey. Norma attended school at Bowdoin Street and graduated from Houlton High School in 1948.
She married Larry Reece in 1949. Throughout the years, Norma worked at Colonels Restaurant, Northeast Harbor, and became famous for her fish chowder and lobster salad plates that are still being made today using her recipes. She also worked at Robinson’s Ice Cream Bar and was co-owner of a bowling alley with her husband in Millinocket.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Larry; three sons, Rodney “Tommy” and his companion, Diane, Terry and his wife, Sherry, and Ricky and his wife, Diane; a daughter, Dawn and her husband, Doug; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Norma was predeceased by a daughter, Tammy Jean, who was born in 1959 and died at 3 months old; two sisters, Hazel and Betty; and one brother, Benjamin.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton.
