BLAINE – Ruth Bell Smith, age 88, passed away on Tuesday evening, Sept. 13, 2011, at the Presque Isle Hospital. She was born June 11, 1923, in Mars Hill, the daughter of Clarence and Edith (Bragdon) Bell.
Ruth resided in Bridgewater for over 47 years, where she was a homemaker and partner in farming with her husband, Alton. As an active member of the Bridgewater Baptist Church, Ruth sang in their choir for many years. She enjoyed cooking, reading and socializing with family and friends. In 1988, Alton and Ruth moved to Blaine. Her generous heart and fun loving spirit will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Alton T. Smith of Blaine; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol & William McLeod of Quincy, MA; two granddaughters, Heather McDonough of Quincy, MA, and Holly McDonough of Broomfield, CO; a very dear brother & sister-in-law, Wendell & Marilyn Bell of Mars Hill; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Alma Smith of Mars Hill; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Clinton and Philip Bell.
Funeral services were held Friday, 1 p.m., at the Bridgewater Baptist Church, with her nephew, Pastor Richard Bell officiating. Friends called noon until time of service at the church.
