The Central Aroostook Historical Society met on Sept. 12 at Central Aroostook High School. Members are working on documenting where schools were located in the area. They know where some were, but not all. Documentation mentions 10 districts in Mars Hill, but only about half of the locations are known. If anyone has information and/or pictures of any of the old school buildings in Mars Hill, Blaine, Westfield, E Plantation or Robinson, the Society would appreciate hearing from you.
Steve Hitchcock of the Central Aroostook Historical Society points out the location of one of the former schools that was in the Mars Hill area. Society members are working on locating all the schools that were in Mars Hill, Blaine, Robinson, E Plantation and Westfield in the past.
The Society is working on getting their 501(c)3 status and making a list of what needs to be done to the old Grange building in Blaine, which will become the home of the Historical Society.
Another project planned by the Society, and being worked on by Betsy York and some of her students at CAHS, is documenting the cemeteries in the area.
For more information about the Society, or to share your knowledge or pictures of the old schools in the area, contact Steve Hitchcock at 551-5048.
