Another successful band season

To the editor:
McGill’s Community Band, under the direction of Joe Fagnant, had a wonderful summer with 10 concerts — two were rained out. Our last concert on Aug. 18th was our party night in the park. We treated the audience with tasty desserts and lemonade or coffee to drink. We guessed we had close to 400 people in the park — the largest audience we have ever had. We had a guestbook that audience members could sign with remarks during the summer concerts. From that we found we had 16 states represented and two provinces of Canada. There were 128 who signed the book … all positive remarks about how much everyone enjoyed our music.
We are proud to say that we are the largest community band in the state of Maine. Another first this year was hosting R.B. Hall Day with bands from other communities in Maine. It was well attended both with bands and audience and held in the new Houlton High School auditorium, as the weather didn’t want to cooperate with holding it at the amphitheater. We, also, had a first when the UMPI band joined us in concert. That, too, was a great success; one we may repeat next year.
There is a sign on the band trailer that says: “Houlton, Music Town of Maine”… that really holds true here! We hope that you will be in our audience next year.
