Fall C.A.N.C.E.R. fundraiser

Several local businesses, along with the Mammography Clinic at TAMC, have organized “Vendors with a Voice,” a fall inspired fundraiser for the Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery (C.A.N.C.E.R.) at the Crow’s Nest Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. There will be activities for children including face painting, games, pumpkin decorating, tractor train rides and visits with the fair characters. Ticket prices are $1 for each activity or 10 tickets for $6 with all proceeds benefiting the C.A.N.C.E.R. program. Other activities scheduled are Zumba with Mandy, $10 “mini” 10-minute photo sessions with Samantha Marie Photography, and a special drink available for purchase by the creators of Twenty 2 just for this event. Stylists from the Oasis Salon will also be on hand and are donating 10 percent of all haircuts during the month of October for the cause!

Baked potato dinner

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will be hosting a baked potato buffet Saturday, Oct. 22 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the church. Guests will be able to fix their baked potatoes as they desire from a variety of toppings (sour cream, chives, cheese sauce, bacon bits, chili and more) all for a donation. Salad, punch and dessert will also be served.

Ladies retreat

The West Chapman Advent Christian Church is issuing an invitation to all ladies that have ever felt stressed. Come away for a day of joy and laughter as the Rev. Brenda Cross opens God’s word and shows area ladies simple ways to de-stress their lives.

Brenda is from Brunswick where she and her husband, Arden, pastor the Gospel Light Fellowship in Bath.

This will be held at the church on Saturday, Oct. 15. There will be two sessions. The morning session will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. with lunch provided. The afternoon session will be from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

If you have questions or want to register, e-mail Maralee Gardiner at gardiner@mfx.net.

Girl Scout fundraiser

Area Girl Scouts are now in the midst of their annual fall fundraiser. Girls will be taking orders for cans of nuts and candy, along with magazine subscriptions, including renewals. For the first time this year, customers will have the opportunity to order canned nuts to purchase that will be shipped to U.S. military troops. Many girls will be working hard to complete the necessary requirements to earn a free week at Girl Scout camp next summer, which includes participating in this sale. Please consider supporting your local Girl Scouts when they approach you with their charts. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Church luncheon

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will be hosting its monthly luncheon this Friday, Oct. 7. Come enjoy a home-cooked meal and show your appreciation by making a donation to thank those that plan, cook and serve the meal!
