Bridgewater Historical plans upcoming festivities

MARS HILL NEWS

by Tomi Henderson

On Oct. 14 and 15, the Bridgewater Historical Association will hold its final yard sale of the year.

This one will not include items from the hall. Some of the BHA members have rented tables and it will be those items on sale.

Don’t forget the Halloween Dance is coming up soon, so get those costumes ready. It is planned for the 29th of October. It’s hoped that everyone will come in costume this year. Last year only a few guests attended out of costume, the rest were decked out for the occasion. There will be door prizes and costume prizes, so come on out and have a good time. Music will be by Outside In.

There are still a few weeks left to enjoy the sounds of Outside In on Thursday nights. So make sure you take the time and come to the hall. Fun is always had by all. Music runs from 6-9 p.m. The musicians are all volunteers and the BHA sincerely appreciates their time, talent and dedication. Refreshments are available at the hall.

For more information about the Bridgewater Historical Association, contact: BHA, P. O. Box 341, Bridgewater, ME 04735 or by call Jann Votaw, president, at 425-7901.

Activity Directors Vicki Jackson, left, and Connie Durost, right, are joined by Spuddy at the Aroostook Health Center on Wednesday, Oct. 5, for Pickers’ Special Day.

Wednesday, Oct. 5, was Picker’s Special Day. Spuddy entertained the residents and a potato picking challenge was waged between staff members. The song “Tater Raisin’ Man” was played while they picked. Andi Long was the winner, with Denise Kingsbury placing a very close second. Just goes to show that if you’re raised pickin’ taters, you never really forget how to do it!

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, at 6:30 at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Pete Lento, career consultant for the state of Maine Department of Labor working out of the Career Center in Presque Isle. He spoke about the opportunities for people in the fields of health care and green energy.

The Maine Job Bank has jobs listed from around the entire state. Each Career Center in the state of Maine is built and arranged the same way, so people can go to any center in the state and know where to go to look for a job, seek help with a resume or search the website for information.

One of the big things that current job applicants need are computer skills. Some jobs are only available by applying online, so an applicant needs to know how to use a computer. Competition is fierce for any available jobs, so an individual needs to do their best in showing a prospective boss that they are willing and able to represent that company in the best possible way.

For more information, stop by the center across from the mall in Presque Isle.
