Wayne Quint is replacing the black for the blue, except when it come to hockey which is a cooperative sport.
Quint will be back in his old familiar place on the sidelines. After a year’s hiatus, he was hired Nov. 14 as Hodgdon High School’s new athletic director, replacing Brad Chaisson.
“I like doing this,” said Quint of his interest in the job. “This is a nice, friendly school. I have been well accepted. I also felt good about the atmosphere when I came out.”
Quint will be doing the sports scheduling for both the Mill Pond School and the high school. He will be getting acquainted with the athletes over the next few weeks.
“I will be at the games,” he said. “I’ve seen some of the junior high kids who have already played. I go to the games and that’s how I get to know them. I will get to know them pretty quick.”
There won’t be many problems that Quint can’t find a solution for a quick resolve.
“I’ve seen it all,” he said.
For about 50 years, Quint served at Houlton High School as a teacher and for 26 of those years, as athletic administrator. However, Quint feels he’s coming full circle.
“I taught in this building for 13 years,” he said. “Looks like I am going back to the beginning in the end.”
On Monday, the high school varsity basketball season opened.
“I met with the coaches and I like all of them,” Quint said. “They are all good. We are looking forward to the season.”
So far, it’s been an easy transition.
“I’ve gotten a lot of great help,” said Quint. “Andrea [Nightingale] helps me a lot. I’m breaking in here and finding out how things work. So far, so good.”
