PRESQUE ISLE — A new entry will be noticeable in the 22nd annual Holiday Light Parade as the Presque Isle Historical Society’s Molly the Trolley makes its way along Main Street, one of several participants already signed up.

“Molly the Trolley will be in the parade this year. We will be selling seats on the trolley for people to ride along with us in the parade,” said Kim Smith, treasurer and tour guide for the Historical Society.

“The Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 22nd annual Holiday Light Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3, starting at 7 p.m. Once again this year, the parade route will begin on North Street at the North Street Health Care parking lot (formerly Smythe’s IGA). Lineup will begin at 5:30 p.m. and head south toward the University of Maine at Presque Isle,” said Theresa Fowler, executive director of the Chamber.

As in past years, judging of the entries for the different categories will take place during the parade as participants make their way through downtown Presque Isle.

“Trophies will be given out after the parade at the University, at Gentile Hall. UMPI officials will be lighting their tree for the parade as well,” said Fowler.

For safety’s sake, Fowler advises parents make sure children maintain a safe distance from vehicles and floats in the parade.

“We appreciate the public’s cooperation. There will be no throwing of candy. If participants wish to give out candy, we would ask that they have walkers handing the candy out to children along the route,” said Fowler.

Over the years, this parade has gained enormous popularity, said Fowler.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your business or organization and join in the fun,” Fowler said.

Catholic Charities of Maine will be collecting non-perishable food during the parade.

“Please come prepared to share during this Christmas season,” Fowler said.

After the parade, hot chocolate and holiday cookies will be served at Gentile Hall at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. All are welcome.
