The business meeting opened with President Donna Brewer leading all in the Purpose Pledge and Prayer. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved as read. Treasurer Diane Ketchum reported that the group had realized $777.95 from its recent Craft Fair and Soup and Pie Luncheon. The secretary was instructed to send several thank-you notes to people who had volunteered in helping in many ways during the Fair.

A thank-you note was received from a very happy person who had received one of the prayer shawls — one of the ongoing missionary projects.

Many responded with their acts-of-kindness since our last meeting.

President Donna welcomed Easton UMW members Marie Hewitt and Eldora Carter, whose UMW unit is joining ours. All current assets of both groups will be joined.

It was voted to give our minister, Pastor Sue Brown, a gift and also one to Mike Malone, who has spent many hours doing work at the church and for the UMW activities.

President Donna announced that she would be responsible for buying Christmas gifts for the Mars Hill nursing home.

Members began work on making out the program for 2012. It will be completed later. The December meeting will be on Monday, Dec. 12, at noon. It will be a Christmas party with sandwiches and sweets enjoyed before a Yankee Swap takes place.

After the benediction, the meeting was adjourned. Members attending included: Donna Brewer, Joan Boone, Elaine Bailey, Diane Ketchum, Frances Banks, Ruth Sylvester, Eldora Carter, Marie Hewitt and Clara Hussey.

FOOD DONATION

— Penny Hickey, in charge of warehousing and sorting the non-perishables at the Mars Hill Food Cupboard, is thrilled with the latest problem she has.

SAD 42 in Mars Hill recently held a food drive for the cupboard and she has over 2,000 items that need to be put away.

She stated that “it’s a great problem to have!” They are very appreciative of the many items donated by the students and their families.

Mr. Averill’s 3rd grade class won the challenge, bringing in 800 food items. A total of 2,380 items were collected. Sue Findlen, the coordinator of the food drive, stated she was overwhelmed with the generosity of the students, especially during these difficult economic times.

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, Nov. 22, at 6:30 at the Aroostook Health Center. The special guests were members of Girl Scout Troop 59 with their leaders, Angela McCrum and Tracy Wright.

They spoke about their current project — working on an Anti-Bullying Campaign in their school. They have made posters as well as a couple of “bully boxes” where students can put notes about any bullying that they have experienced or seen while remaining anonymous.

The troop is currently working on various fundraisers in order to fund their June 6 trip to Washington, D.C. to take part in the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting. The troop is sending 11 Scouts, along with chaperones, who will be on one of five buses going to the event from Maine. They will stay at the 4H Conference Center, tour various places in D.C. on Thursday and Friday, attend a sing-a-long with all the other Scouts on Saturday at the mall and travel home on Sunday.
