AR Len GoverAmerican Flag ColorCARIBOU – Leonard W. Gover, 64, beloved husband of Debra Gover, passed away Monday, November 21st at home. A native of the West Coast, he was born December 15, 1946, the seventh child of Leta Mae (Nye) and Milford Fletcher Gover. As a member of the U.S. Air Force, he was stationed at several bases throughout his career, including Loring Air Force Base in Limestone and in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

After his military service, Leonard worked several jobs before being employed for the rest of his career at the United States Postal Service. He held many positions within the Postal Service and retired as Postmaster of the Skowhegan office.

Leonard had varied interests. He was known for his love of hunting. He spent many fall days trekking through the Northern Maine Woods in constant search of that allusive deer or moose. He was also an avid sports fan. He had a love for the New York Yankees and the Oakland Raiders. His love of sports did not stop with baseball and football, he had a passion for NASCAR, and made regular trips to Bristol Motor Speedway.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and spouses, Linda L. Gover of Caribou, Tammy Martin and her husband, Dave of Limestone. He is also survived by his brothers, Fred, Gary, Tim, Tom, John Paul Gover and sisters, Audrey Tyler, Melva Gover, Paula Rowe and Kim Gover. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Jared Patane, Braydon Martin and his great grandchildren, Dakota Patane, Isaah Cooper. He also had numerous nieces and nephews.

Leonard was predeceased by both parents and siblings Aldene Luttrell, Ellen Shannon, Milford (Frank) Gover, Walter Gover, Linda Bates, and Danny Gover.

He will always be remembered by several special friends: Ferd and Mickey White, Russell (Chipper) Getchell, Pat Noble, Gary and Velma St. Peter, and Charlie Vincent.

There was a short memorial at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Caribou, on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a cancer fund of your choice. Memories and condolences to the family may be expressed at www.lancastermorgan.com.
