Player of the Week

PRESQUE ISLE — University of Maine-Presque Isle sophomore forward Rashell Saucier of Washburn has been named the NCAA Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week.

In the first week of games, Saucier averaged 16.7 points and 9 rebounds per contest. Saucier produced a pair of double-doubles in three games including 23 points and 10 rebounds at the University of Maine – Farmington on Nov. 18.

Aaron Hutchins, a sophomore guard from University of Maine-Presque Isle is the USCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. He scored in double figures all four games that week totaling 66 points including a 27-point standout performance against Newbury College. Hutchins also shot 83 percent from the free throw line as well as averaged 1.8 steals per game on the week.

Preseason tournament

Basketball is back for another season and Fort Fairfield High School is hosting the fourth Annual Preseason Invitational Tournament. Four boys teams and four girls teams make up this year’s tournament which begins Friday afternoon with the Limestone girls playing the Easton girls at 3:30 p.m. at Gardner Gymnasium. The Lady Tigers open the evening session by taking on Matt Rossignol’s Van Buren Lady Crusaders in a 6 p.m. game followed by the Fort boys hosting Van Buren. Games continue Saturday with eight games scheduled beginning 10 a.m. and ending with the final game at 7:15 p.m.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students each day for all games played on that day.

The schedule is as follows: Friday, Dec. 2 Limestone and Easton girls, 3:30 p.m.; Limestone and GHCA boys, 4:45 p.m.; Fort Fairfield and Van Buren girls, 6 p.m.; and Fort Fairfield and Van Buren boys, 7:15 p.m.. The schedule on Saturday is: Fort Fairfield and Easton girls, 10 a.m.; Fort Fairfield and GHCA boys, 11:15 a.m.; Van Buren and Limestone girls, 12:30 p.m.; Van Buren and Limestone boys, 1:45 p.m; Easton and Van Buren girls, 3:30 p.m.; GHCA and Van Buren boys, 4:45 p.m.; Fort Fairfield and Limestone girls, 6 p.m.; and Fort Fairfield and Limestone boys, 7:15 p.m.
