Workshop to be held for forest landowners
Forest landowners who are interested in learning about programs and services available to help them help their forests are invited to attend a workshop on Thursday, Dec. 8, in Presque Isle.
Sponsored by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Maine Forest Service (MFS) and Aroostook County Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD), the workshop will be held at the USDA Service Center, 735 Main Street in Presque Isle, at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting is designed to inform participants about technical and financial assistance available to forest landowners through USDA conservation programs. Speakers will be Gerald Barnes, a forester from NRCS, and Andrew Shultz, landowner outreach forester from MFS. They will also give participants information they need to access those same programs and services.
NRCS is working with landowners and land managers to improve the health and value of forestlands through the development of management plans and the implementation of conservation practices. These conservation practices will improve forest health and productivity, reduce erosion and improve water quality, and improve fish and wildlife habitat — promoting healthy, sustainable forests.
If you have questions and/or require special accommodations, notify the USDA Service Center in Presque Isle at 764-4153, ext. 3.
