PIHS swim team opens up season with relays
ORONO — The Presque Isle High School swim team’s season is under way. The Wildcats on Friday took part in the Penobscot Valley Conference on the campus of the University of Maine.
The meet also featured swim teams from MDI, Bangor, Old Town, Foxcroft, Orono, John Bapst, Ellsworth, Brewer, Hampden, Washington Academy and George Stevens Academy.
The Presque Isle girls placed sixth at the meet with 88 points. The PIHS boys finished in ninth with 46 points. The MDI girls and Bangor boys were the meet winners.
The Wildcat girls, Erikka Murley, Grace Short, Erica Hemphill and Sarah McEachern, placed sixth in the 200-yard medley. Jacqueline Lambert, Olvia Goulet, Short and Sara Gilson placed fifth in the 250-yard shuttle relay. It was a sixth-place finish for Mary Mitchell, Emma Michalowski, Murley and Hemphill in the 200-yard butterfly. Mitchell, Gilson, Short and S. McEachern placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle. It was a fourth-place finish for Michell, Michalowski, Murley and Hemphill in the 4×100 individual medley. Naomi McEachern, S. McEachern, Lambert and Short placed third in the 200-yard breastroke. The Presque Isle girls placed 10th in the 400-yard freestyle with Gilson, Heather Nadeau, S. McEachern and N. McEachern.
The boys placed eighth in the 200-yard medley with Dustin Drabek, Alex Hemphill, Issac Estey and Keegan Ennis. The Wildcats had a third-place finish in the 250-yard shuttle relay with Ennis, Brenden Goulet, Hemphill and Estey. Tristan Russell, David Cyr, Drabek and Goulet placed eighth in the 200-yard freestyle. It was a sixth-place finish for Russell, Ennis, Hemphill and Estey in the 200-yard breaststroke and ninth place for Russell, Cyr, Drabek and Joshua Jones in the 400-yard freestyle.
The Wildcats next meet will be at the Presque Isle Indoor pool at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
